New 2016 GMC Terrain

2016 GMC Terrain Overview

  • Midsize SUV with two-rows of seats
  • Updated styling and new safety features for 2016
  • All-wheel drive optional
The 2016 GMC Terrain gets several notable updates for the new model year, including tweaked exterior styling and newly available safety technology.

The Terrain is closely related to the Chevrolet Equinox, with both of the GM SUVs getting similar changes for 2016. Both the front and rear fascias have been tweaked and the front grille is also updated. The optional LED daytime running lamps have also been restyled and the hood now features a “power dome” design. There are now four available trim levels: SL, SLE, SLT, and Denali. Denali models are the most luxurious inside and the most ostentatious outside, with an extra helping of chrome splashed liberally on the exterior and unique 19-inch wheels.

There are two available engine options under the hood. The base engine is a 182-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine while those who want more power can opt for a 301-hp, 3.6-liter V-6. A six-speed automatic is the only transmission option. Front-wheel drive is standard with both engines, while all-wheel drive is optional. Towing capacity maxes out at 3,500 pounds with the V-6. The best fuel economy (22/32 mpg city/highway) comes with the base engine and FWD equipped.

Inside, there are also a few tweaks to the instrument panel and center stack, where there is now a new storage shelf and updated graphics. Standard features include a 7-inch touchscreen, USB port, air conditioning, Bluetooth connectivity (no streaming audio), cruise control, and four 12v power outlets. Also available is Intellilink infotainment, leather upholstery, powered/heated front seats, and navigation.

Standard safety features include six airbags, a rearview camera, antilock brakes, and electronic stability control. For 2016, the Terrain’s blind spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alerts is now optional on all trim levels. Also available are lane departure and forward collision warnings, but no automatic braking system is offered.
